Feb. 2020 — During a friend’s wedding in the U.S. Virgin Islands, my husband and I found ourselves overlooking Water Bay in St. Thomas, admiring the beautiful boats anchored in the harbor. We commented on “how cool” it was that people might actually be living aboard those vessels. Little did we know, they were! After a few minutes of daydreaming, we let the thought drift away and didn’t revisit it again until we flew back to the States…when our future suddenly changed.
Back in Colorado, the COVID-19 pandemic was just beginning to take hold. Life as we knew it came to a halt. By March 2020, our son’s school had shifted to online classes, the nonprofit we ran was forced to close temporarily, and on March 25th, the state of Colorado went into full lockdown with stay-at-home orders.
That was the moment we began asking ourselves what we truly wanted our future to look like and we knew we weren’t going to let a pandemic decide for us.
Since we had recently fallen in love with the USVIs, we started there. I applied for jobs, we looked into apartments, and even tossed around the idea of living on a boat.
That idea lit a spark in my husband. He immediately started searching for boats for sale, while we binged YouTube sailing channels like The O’Kelly’s, Sailing La Vagabonde, WE Sail, Sailing Nahoa, and many more. He also researched sailing and boating schools that accepted the G.I. Bill in Florida. Within only two months, we had found a boat, enrolled in school, packed up our house, and driven clear across the country to live the boat life!
The rest, as they say, is history!

Our Mission
We’re not out here just for Instagram likes and YouTube subscribers. We’ve got a mission behind our madness! Here are a few things we are focusing on while we’re on the water:
-Learning a new skill as a family
-Learning about new places & cultures while educating our followers as well
-Homeschooling our son for a year
-Volunteering for, supporting, and sharing the mission of various ocean and sailing related nonprofits & businesses with our followers
-Educating others on family boat life, simple living, gear and equipment, boat repair/upgrades, safe travel, and eco friendly sailing practices
-Leaving our anchorages or marinas cleaner than how we found them
-Inspiring followers to take action and take care of our oceans
